1. Preheat oven to 375°F. |
2. Mix lean ground beef (2 pounds), onion (1), eggs (2), green bell pepper (1), saltine crackers (20), milk (¼ cup), salt and pepper to taste in a bowl . |
3. Form into a loaf or brick shape and place on a cookie sheet lined with foil, or press into a loaf pan . |
4. Cover with bacon strips (3) and ketchup (⅓ cup). |
5. Bake until the internal temperature of the loaf reaches 165°F in the center. Time will vary depending on the pan; e.g., 60 minutes for cookie sheet, 90 minutes for pan. It is best to use a thermometer . |
