| 1 large | Yellow onion, thinly sliced |
| 1/4 tsp. | Salt |
| 1/2 cup | Mayonnaise |
| 2 Tbsp. | Ketchup |
| 2 Tbsp. | Sweet pickle relish |
| 1 tsp. | Yellow mustard |
| 1/2 tsp. | White vinegar |
| 24 oz. | Frozen shoestring French fries |
| 4 | American cheese slices |
| 1. Bake the frozen fries on a baking sheet according to the package instructions until crispy. |
| 2. While the fries bake, melt the butter in a skillet over medium-low heat. |
| 3. Add the onion and salt, and cook, stirring occasionally, until deeply golden and caramelized, about 35 to 40 minutes. |
| 4. Whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, pickle relish, mustard, and vinegar in a small bowl to make the sauce. |
| 5. Preheat the broiler to high. |
| 6. Spread the cooked fries in an even layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet. |
| 7. Lay the American cheese slices over the top of the fries. |
| 8. Broil for 2 to 3 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly. |
| 9. Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the melted cheese. |
| 10. Drizzle the sauce over the top and serve immediately. |
